Environment:
Disseminated in a kaolinitized pegmatite dike. Cheralite-(Ce) (1953) is now regarded as Ca-rich monazite-(Ce).

Name Origin:
For Chera (Kerala), an ancient Dravidian kingdom predating Travancor (now Kerala State), India.
