Shergotty SNC meteorite. Shergotty is a basaltic achondrite that fell on August 25, 1865 in Bihar State in India. Link to MinDat.org Location Data.
Name Origin:
Name for Friedrich A. Seifert (b. 1941), founding Director of the Bayerische Geoinstitut, Universitt Bayreuth, Germany, for his important contributions to high-pressure geoscience.
Synonym:
IMA2004-010

Seifertite
Comments: BSE-SEM showing white lamellae are seifertite and the black lamellae consisting of dense SiO2 glass, probably formed by vetrification of another metastable post-stishovite silica plolymorph.
Location: Shergotty meteorite.
Scale: See Image.
