Remarks	Hardest, densest, and one of the rarest of the lanthanide metals. Little used except in research. Diagnostic tests: There are no simple diagnostic tests to identify lutetium. X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy is commonly employed to identify and analyze members of the Rare-Earth group elements.
